Robbie Coltrane Blackadder Actor Dies Age 72

To some people, Robbie Coltrane is best known for his role as Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, but other fondly remember his appearance as Dr. Johnson in Blackadder.

Robbie Coltrane Dies 14th October 2022 Age 72

It’s with sadness we found out today that Robbie Coltrane , who played Dr. Samuel Johnson in Blackadder Series 3 Episode “Ink and Incapability” died aged 72.

“Robbie will probably be best remembered for decades to come as Hagrid… a role which brought joy to children and adults alike, prompting a stream of fan letters every week for over 20 years,” his agent said.

Robbie Coltrane, born Anthony Robert McMillan, was a literal giant in both the areas of comedy and acting worlds. Many people remember him as Dr. Eddie “Fitz” Fitzgerald from the TV series Cracker, or of course for his roles in the Harry Potter films.

Blackadder fans will remember him fondly as Dr. Johnson and also as the Spirit of Christmas in Blackadder’s Christmas Carol.

Robbie Coltrane Blackadder Appearance

Coltrane was made an OBE in the 2006 New Year’s honours list for his services to drama and he was awarded the Bafta Scotland Award for outstanding contribution to film in 2011.

His agent did not give details on his death – but said Coltrane’s family thanked the team at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for their care.

Stephen Fry, who starred with Coltrane in the comedy series Alfresco as well as Blackadder, said the actor will be “dreadfully missed”.
